Heart Failure and Diabetes Mellitus: Biomarkers in Risk Stratification and Prognostication

نویسندگان

چکیده

Heart failure (HF) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have a synergistic effect on cardiovascular (CV) morbidity mortality in patients with established CV disease (CVD). The aim of this review is to summarize the knowledge regarding discriminative abilities conventional novel biomarkers T2DM HF or at higher risk developing HF. While biomarkers, such as natriuretic peptides high-sensitivity troponins demonstrate high predictive ability reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), not case for preserved (HFpEF). HFpEF heterogeneous variability CVD factors including T2DM, hypertension, renal disease, older age, female sex; therefore, extrapolation traditional population constrained. New biomarker-based approaches are disputed be sufficient improving stratification prediction poor clinical outcomes HFpEF. Novel biomechanical stress, fibrosis, inflammation, oxidative collagen turn-over shown potential benefits determining prognosis regardless peptides, but their role point-to-care routine practice requires elucidation large trials.

Diabetes Mellitus and Heart Failure.

Epidemiologic and clinical data from the last 2 decades have shown that the prevalence of heart failure in diabetes is very high, and the prognosis for patients with heart failure is worse in those with diabetes than in those without diabetes. Experimental data suggest that various mechanisms contribute to the impairment in systolic and diastolic function in patients with diabetes, and there is...

Influence of diabetes mellitus on heart failure risk and outcome

Our aim is to summarize and discuss the recent literature linking diabetes mellitus with heart failure, and to address the issue of the optimal treatment for diabetic patients with heart failure. THE STUDIES LINKING DIABETES MELLITUS (DM) WITH HEART FAILURE (HF) : The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in heart failure populations is close to 20% compared with 4 to 6% in control populations. Epide...

Nonischaemic heart failure and diabetes mellitus.

Knowledge about the impact of diabetes mellitus on prognosis in patients with heart failure continues to grow. As reported in this issue, de Groote et al.1 used coronary angiography to stratify diabetics with systolic heart failure into ischaemic and nonischaemic aetiologies. The hypothesis tested was that diabetic status may be used as a prognostic indicator in heart failure patients. The stud...
